How to Cook a Vegetable – Using a Pressure Cooker Makes Cooking chickpeas Easier and More Tasty

How to cook a vegetable can be as simple as ABC if you know the right technique. Vegetables don’t have to be cooked exactly the same way as an apple or potato; you can experiment with different methods depending on your personal preference. The most important part of learning how to cook a vegetable is to learn what to do before you start cooking. You need to know the basic cooking techniques and then learn the variations that you can use. Once you have that knowledge you will be able to confidently cook your own recipes at home.

One of the most common methods of cooking vegetables is to use a pressure cooker. Both a quick and a slow cooker can help you cook chickpeas in a healthy and tasty manner. Chickpeas tend to be high in protein so it is recommended that you soak them overnight (or for at least four hours). That being said, cooking your own chickpea stock is relatively easy, you just get to control the taste and they taste much better. If you aren’t as adventurous you could soak your chickpeas overnight, then throw them into your slow cooker and set it to medium heat, making sure to add water as needed.

A pressure cooker takes away much of the mess from the process; all you have to do is set your lid and set the machine to its full power. Bring your chickpeas to a boil, add your liquid (be sure to use a liquid base if you are using a stock pot – vegetable stock makes a great base) and cover for about thirty minutes. When your chickpeas are done simmer for another couple of hours and you will have a delicious and flavorful dish. Alternatively you could use your stovetop to cook your chickpeas as well, but I find the added mess and hassle is not worth the difference in flavor.
