What Is Food?
Food is any material consumed for the sustenance of an organisms. Generally speaking, food is any food that is consumed in order to supply an organisms with necessary nutrients, including proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. In recent times, the scope of food has widened to include even the elements that are not necessary for human consumption. Technically speaking, food is a living entity that enriches and builds a body. A human body is a complex system comprised of a large number of organs, which are connected to each other through a complex network of nerves. Although the primary job of the human body is to secrete hormones and blood to maintain its existence, the brain acts as a controller and initiator of the activities of all the organ systems.
The brain consists of neurons that are connected through the synapses to form circuits that determine behavior and the maintenance of health. Food provides nutrients and energy to the neurons in the brain, which nourish it and allow it to function properly. For this reason, we need a diet rich in foods that are high in carbohydrates, proteins and unsaturated fats, while drastically reducing the intake of sugar. It is these nutrients and fats that allow us to see food as a source of sustenance and not as something that should only be eaten once and then thrown away.
We should adopt a more holistic approach to diet by eating foods that are high in carbohydrates, unsaturated fats, protein and unsaturated sugars, while reducing the intake of fat, salt and sugar. In addition to being highly nutritious, these types of foods are also low in calories, which makes them easier on the stomach and result in a more effective weight loss. Many people do not eat enough animal products, resulting in excess fat and calories in their diet. By incorporating more plant-based foods, especially whole grains and legumes, into our diets, we can easily see food as an important part of a healthy lifestyle.
