Genesis Rescue Systems Provides Many Boron Capable Cutters

In an effort to meet tougher safety standards, today's automobile manufacturers have started using stronger, exotic materials in vehicle construction. The auto industry's increased use of High Strength Low Alloy and Ultra High Strength Steel has presented serious obstacles to rescue personnel. Auto makers are continually changing designs and strength of different steels as well as where it is used on the vehicle.

Ultra High Strength Steel has the properties similar to glass. It is extremely hard but very brittle. The enormous amount of pressure it takes to sever this type of material is where many hydraulic cutters fail. Typically the compressive force of the cutter will cause the boron to fracture rather than being cut. If enough compression force cannot be achieved, the cutter will stall and no amount of re-positioning of the cutter will prove to be successful.

These exotic metals in new car construction present a serious problem for most hydraulic cutters. Genesis Rescues Systems has recognized the urgent need for more powerful cutters. They have responded by producing some of the strongest cutters on the market and testing them on the most exotic material used by the auto manufacturers.

Boron Capable is a designation Genesis Rescue Systems gives to a cutter that has successfully cut some of the toughest boron steel. At Genesis Rescue Systems, they are continually testing their cutters and their ability to cut these exotic materials consistently, reliably and in real life situations.

Examples:

In order to provide more rollover protection, in 2004 Subaru began using steel rods in the roof posts in some of their vehicles. Of these, the WRX STi has proven to be the most difficult to cut. The roof posts in the WRX are constructed with two solid steel bars running through the roof post. Check out our video below where the following Genesis Rescue Boron Capable cutters cut through the 2004 Subaru B post: C231 Cutter, C270 Cutter, C165 Cutter, and the 16C Brute Vario.

(Note: Although it has been suggested that a sawzall could be used as an optional way to cut this post it will take about three to four minutes and some blade changes to get through one of these posts. Compare that to 4 to 5 seconds with a Genesis Boron Capable cutter.)

Volvo has been a leader in vehicle safety as well. Their vehicle construction utilizes more of these exotic metals than any other automobile manufacturer. Check out our video below where the following Genesisu Rescue Boron Capable cutters cut through the Volvo S60 steel side impact beam: C165 cutter, C270 cutter, C130 cutter, and C90 cutter.

The truth is there are cutters that can cut the toughest boron steels and Genesis Rescue Systems has plenty of them to choose from. Want more information these cutters? Rescue Equipment/Extrication Tool Education Opportunity - Crash Course 2011

In the emergency medical profession, education is critical. It is not only important to stay on top of changes in caring for patients, first responders also need to know how to properly work with the equipment used in emergency situations. Howell Rescue Systems, makers of Genesis Rescue Systems rescue tools and equipment, provides ongoing education to keep you on top of your game.

The 22nd Annual Howell Rescue Systems Spring Extrication Crash Course
April 30th and May 1st
Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Dayton, Ohio
Register here

The Crash Course from Howell Rescue Systems is the nation's best extrication class. This two day event will offer students hands-on training for scenario-based vehicle extrication. There will be ten stations where students destroy over 200 cars using Genesis Rescue Systems rescue equipment. There will be classes on air hammer extrication techniques, scenario-based extrication techniques, "under riders" vehicle displacement from under semi-trailers, new techniques in displacement with power tools and hand tools, advanced stabilization with a vehicle on its roof and side, techniques of power lifting air bags, car on roof - floor pan removal, rescue over-view and new vehicle designs, side impact extrication, and mechanisms of injury/rapid patient removal. All stations will help educate participants on how they can maintain a high level of safety while freeing victims from vehicle wreckage as quickly as possible.

In addition to the topics mentioned above, Howell Rescue Systems will be teaming up with General Motors to bring students a special session. First responders participating in the 2011 Crash Course will learn direct from GM the safety issues with the new Chevrolet Volt and auto extrication. This is a unique chance for students to learn about the newest auto manufacturing technologies and how they affect emergency extrication and their safety.
