E-ONE Aerial Fire Truck Chosen for Safety Features by Alabama Community
When a community goes through a devastating disaster together, the first thing they are usually wondering when the dust finally settles is, "How can we be better prepared next time?" After a destructive F4 tornado ransacked the city of Cullman, Alabama, the community fire department debated that question relentlessly as they did what they could to put their city back together.
It became very clear to everyone in Cullman how important the fire department was in a crisis like a tornado as firemen and members of the National Guard gave out water and other needed assistance to citizens of Cullman. In just eleven short days the city was restored back to full power. The City Council President, Garlan Gudger, was definitely convinced at what an integral part the fire department played in getting the town back on its feet so quickly, stating, "Our community had never been through anything like that storm, we didn't know what we needed until we needed it...So when it came time to order the truck, we told the chief to make sure the truck was fully equipped with everything the department needed."
With the community behind them, Chief Junior Reinhardt made the call for what type of aerial fire apparatus the city would purchase to give them a better advantage if another similar disaster were to strike Cullman. Choosing E-ONE was a no-brainer.
Several years ago the fire department of Cullman had had an E-ONE unit but it was involved in an accident where the truck rolled over, yet everyone in the cab walked away with only a few cuts and bruises. Knowing that only E-ONE fire trucks provided this type of safety with their custom roll cage cab design, it was an easy choice.
Once the safety aspect was covered, they added some other components to their aerial truck plans to better prepare for any future emergency situations. More scene lighting were placed on the truck along with lifting eyes at the tip of the base section, allowing the truck to lift up to 4,000 pounds. More rescue equipment was also a must-have addition.
Adding a touch of the community, the 100' E-ONE Aerial Platform fire truck featured a black body on a black and gold custom Quest chassis. Bearcat paws adorn the truck along with a gold "C", representing the high school logo and mascot. "This is certainly not your traditional red fire truck, we wanted this truck to be a symbol of community strength and a reminder that if we pull together we can overcome insurmountable odds," Gudger said.
E-ONE Fire Apparatuses are known and proven for their safety. This is just one example story of many others out there. If you are interested in learning more about the safety features of an E-ONE fire truck, fill out this request form here or call us today at 877-538-8220.
